The charges laid against Matthew John Mason, of the 1900-block of Nelson Avenue, relate to events that occurred during his stint as a director of Arauco Resources Ltd., a British Columbian company whose shares were at one time listed on the Vancouver Stock Exchange. The alleged offence occurred between February and April 1996. Both the B.C. Securities Commission and the RCMP’s commercial crime sec- tion were involved in Mason’s investiga- tion. Since the alleged activities took place, Arauco has changed its name and moved its head office to Edmonton following a change in the company’s controlling interest. “The company was essentially a shell and the entire board was changed,” said Kerry Knoll, director of investor rela- ck trader charged @ tions at the renamed Kit Resources. “There’s no connection whatsoever’ f with the present company.” A shell company is one that is listed on an exchange but possesses few if any | assets.
