THE NORTH Shore's Cedric Burgers is the youngest member of
the Canadian men's Olympic rewing team. He will be competing
in Barcelona at the end of this month in a four-man sweeping

competition.

The 22-year-old Hillside grad
started taking rowing seriously at
UBC in 1988 and became the
youngest member of the 16-man
Canadian Olympic rowing team
this year. .

Burgers made the team based
on how he did in 1991 which in-
cluded three second places at the
Canadian Championships. He also
made the team despite being in-
jured last fall with a stress-related
rib fracture. Burgers fractured his
rib while ‘“‘overdoing it’’ training.

“It was really a long shot (to
make the Olympic team) because
there were so many people trying
out for the team. A lot had gone
to the Pan American games and
had been on the team for quite a
few years,”’ said Burgers.
