Insurance Bureau of
Canada recommends that
you prepare for the possibili-
ty of a major insured
catastrophe by developing a
complete household inven-
tory of your clothing, fur-
niture and other personal
property. —

Many insurance companies
can provide you with an in-
ventory form which will
assist in itemizing your
household content by pro-
viding headings for the dif-
ferent rooms in your home.

By listing all the contents
of every room, you are in a
position to assess the poten-
tial value subject to loss —
including furnishings and ap-
pliances, television sets,
washers, dryers, radios, tape
recorders, clothing, and
food.

Special attention should be

aid to valuable items such as
jewelry, furs, antiques,
stamp and coin collections,
and paintings.

Depending on the value of
these items, they perhaps
should be appraised. Con-
sideration should be given to
insuring them individually,
because most policies contain
special limits restricting the
amount collectible in the
event of loss by certain perils,
particularly theft.

Don’t forget to check the
garage or other outbuildings
for sports equipments, oul.
door lawn utensils, propane
barbecues, and other items.

An effective way to supple
ment the written inventory 1s
to develop a visual record for
your personal property with
your camera. A photograph
of any particular equipment
is often the best way to ul
lustrate its valuc
