begin playing soccer until
just three years ago but his
natural abilities attracted a
host of Whitecaps scouts to
see him play. He spent the
last winter season with the
Whitecaps reserve team in
the Pacific Coast Soccer
League, finishing as the
club's leading scorer.

Lowther was the
Whitecaps’ second amateur
draft choice in 1980 and 29th
player chosen overall in the
annual draft. A native of
North Shields, England (near
Newcastle). Lowther
became a Canadian citizen
in May of last year.
Regarded as one of the top
defensive Canadian
prospects, Lowther got into
one game last season, while

Yorkshire native was ap-
pointed Caps outdoor Assis-
tant Coach/Physiotherapist
in 1980 after similar posts at
Middlesbrough, Arsenal and
West Bromwich Albion.
Wright also acted as Assis-
tant Manager for two
seasons at London's Arsenal.
