being urged by West
Vancouver’s Community
Services. Advisory Com-
mission “in a recom-
mendation to council.

The commission has asked
council to pass its recom-
mendation to West Van
MLA AJan Williams, who is
also B.C.’s attorney general,
and to press the provincial
government for appropriate
legislation.

Statistics showing that
drivers in the 15-25 age
group were responsible for
33 per cent of all traffic
accident fatalities, and that
two thirds of those accidents
were alcohol-related.

The commission also
notes that 15 out of 26
jurisdictions with lower
drinking and driving age
limits have latterly raised

them and found a 40 per cent
improvement in their ac-
cident rates.
