WEST Vancouver’s Festival of Lights marked its ninth vear Monday as 70 trees of fight were illuminated outside The Beach House at Dundarave Pier. The popular restaurant is j sponsor of the festival and was the host of a fabulous party to kick off the event. The rain held off initially and the Classic Carollers as well as carollers trom Le Petit Montessori preschool, Lighthouse Montessori Studio and Collingwood school able to raise their voices in songs of the season. The trees lovely with their lights, but there is a serious point to the festiv The trees are all sponsored by members of the business commu- nity and moncy ised for The Harvest Project by asking mem- bers of the public to vote for their favourite tree with a small _ donation. It’s expected thar 10,008 visitors will have checked out the trees by Jan. 2, 2000 *s ~ possible thar The Harvest could receive a huge seasonal boost to their fundraising. The registered charity will soon be needing a new base of operations to continue its fight to help the needy break *the poverty cycle — it’s motto: a hand up, not a hand out. The Festival of Lights this year coin- cided with The Beach House at Dundarave Pier’s fifth anniversary so all at the restaurant went ‘the extra mile to ensure that this year’s celebration would be a great way to kick off the Christmas season, Congyatulations, folks, you succeeded. . Lorraine Hewer is one of The Beach House at Dunderave Pier’s oldest stomers —- and we are not talking about her age. Lorraine has been coming to the restaurant from the day it opened and has her own special table reserved every Friday night except for the one Friday night a month she goes out on the town with the girls.
