HELP? - the Keareth Gordon School

for elementary school aged children with a specific

{ ‘anguage disability and average to superior
intelligence.

In January 1973 the Kenneth Gordon School was
founded on the premise thal a total school environ-
ment, geared to his specific needs in kunguage and
other subjects, could be academically effective and
emotionally supportive for the child with a specific
language disability, In 1980 the society for the
Education of Children with Specific Learning
Disabilities was formed and now owns and operates
the school. The objective of the school is to integrate
our students back into the regular school system as
quickly 2s possible.

Our program is based on experience and research
over the past 50 years and is implemented in many
internationally recognized schools. The program has
an Grioa-Gillingham multisensory phonetic base.
This base has been expanded and updated in an inno-
vative manner ts provide a balanced approach to the
teaching of language arts. This approach plus 2
esmphasis on positive self-image is the heart of our
teaching,

Understanding their differences is a major step in
helping these children learn. At Kennetl: Gordon
Schoo! our goa) is to nurture eed draw from withie
the very best of a child, We can prove (o our children
that even though their b’s and d's get confused, learn-
ing can be 2 joyous experience. .

Each child receives 1 hour of individual language
tutoring 2 day meeting his specific necds and smali
classes aliow for more individualized programming.

- All classroom teachers are qualified B.C. teachers

with supplementary courses in the field of Learning
Disabilities. Our students have many strengths and the
entire curriculum is based on the needs of the whole
child and aims for success for each child. For a child
with a fearning disability, Kenneth Gerdon can be a
new beginning. it's a chance for a fresh start.
