The lab will provide students, faculty and community members with a much-needed resource cen- tre to assist in the production of print and graphic materials. Users will be able-to design high-quality visual presentations for research, . project work or business proposals. Faculty will: also be able to create a wide range of instruc- tional materials using slides, overhead projections and print Media to enhance classroom pres- entations. “The new media production lab will have 12 additional work sta- tions, two graphic scanners, a braille printer, a new dlack and white printer and the only color printer on campus,’’ said Edna Sakata, supervisor of media pro- duction services. “Right now it is difficult for users to get access to work sta- tions to prepare graphic pres- entations. With the new self-help media production lab, there will be equipment dedicated for stu- dent, faculty and community use. “The new color printer will enable our department to prepare eye-catching graphic presentations for faculty to use in the classroom," she added. An important feature of the media production services lab will be its total accessibility for stu- dents with disabilities, The fab and its furnishings will allow students in wheelchairs ac- cess to computerized work stations for the production of their project materials. Print-impaired students will have use of specialized computer stations with DEC-talk speech synthesizers as well as Kurzweil Reading Machine, which scans printed materials that are then read by the DEC talk in the com- puter. A braille printer and software for using large print and braille materials will also be available.
