nesday, February 5 orth Shore News PEERS District resident contemptuous of information night Dear Editor: I attended the two pubiic hear- ings concerning the co-up devel- opment which North Vancouver District Council approved Mon- day, Jan. 27, for the Deep Cove area. In addition to the public hearings, a ‘‘public information night” was held some time back in the old Burrard View school. Ail three of these sessions were well attended by residents of Deep Cove, and one thing that was ap- parcnt at all sessions was the overwhelming concerns over tack of facilities, overcrowding at schools, and increasing traffic probiems, Deep Cove residents thought they should take the time to be heard since they were the ones whose children’s futures were being affected. Deep Cove residents were sub- jected to waiting through more than five hours of hearings but left feeling confident that after the large majority had voiced con- cerns against the project their clected officials would surely heed their concerns. One would certainly hope that the public information hearing is not a pracess only for council to say “they have complied with the required process’? as they do their own thing. i feel contempt for this system that fails us. I feel we were deceived. Since it is apparent council had already made up its mind on this decision, why did they ‘vaste our time and give us the false impression that we really did count in their deci- sion-making? ‘t appears ta me this decision was dictated by money. 1 have hved in North Vancouver District, for just over four years and have tried to be an involved citizen because | really had hoped ! could make a difference. But I will rethink any public involve- ment since it only leads to disiliu- sionment and discontent. Marian Witson Nerth Vancouver N.
