Wonderfully draped fabrics in wools and muskox hair are created by Vancouver’s Komori- Thorp Designs for fall ’91. Loose kimono shaped jackets, long structured jackets, pullovers and shawl-sized scarves combine tex- ture and color for truly unique fashions. Kimono jackets have wide, elbow length raglan sleeves, striped detail and a one-button closure at the hem line. Pullovers are more fitted in tunic styles that provide perfect bases for a large draped shawl. Longer, more Structured jackets are single breasted with front flapped pockets and an accenting yoke. Covered buttons, fringe, and novelty yarns provide the only added detail on these straight cut silhouettes, allowing the intricate weave of the fabric to be the design’s focal point. Wool crepe coordinates balance the thicker hand woven separates, and accent in shades of navy, burgundy, cream and black. Vicky Komori, who designs the garments, and Diane Thorpe, the firm’s hand weaver, have been successfully selling their collec- tions through in-home fashion consultants for several seasons. The following in-home distributors represent the Komori-Thorpe line for fall °91: J.B. Collectibtes in North Van- couver; Janneke’s Collections in Vanccuver; Designer Accessories in Richmond; and Winning Image in Surrey. United Way campaign has reached quarter of goal THE UNITED Way of the Lower Mainland recently received $4.5 million in donations toward its goal of $17.5 million. That’s 26 per cent of the total needed to provide next year’s an- nual sustaining grants to 92 Unit- ed Way member agencies and ser- vices, which will help more than 500,000 Lower Mainland people find solutions to the many prob- lems they face each year. One of the new thrusts initiated for this fall’s drive is the Cam- paign Community Focus Division, through which 13 local committees are working to raise greater awareness of, and support for, the United Way campaign. “‘Local volunteers have held some very original, fun events,’’ says campaign chair George Gaff- ney. ‘“‘They’ve all been well sup- ported family days. The increase in recognition is leading to greater donor support, which is exactly what is needed to make this cam- Paign a success” Five thousand volunteers are involved in the campaign, which is United Way’s 60th and is slated to run through to Wednesday, Nov. 2415 GRANVILLE ST! ‘Eq PRESENT THIS AD FOR 25% OFF For more information call 731- 7781.
