It’s the Variety Club’s silver anniversary, 25 years of record- breaking telethoning to raise money for B.C.’s special kids. Variety had the very first telethon in the province way back on Oct. 7 and 8, 1966, and raised $66,000. Over the past quarter of acentury, the 22-hour show has raised an unbelievable $33 million dollars! The ‘show of hearts’’ headliners on stage at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre are the woman known to millions as the “songbird of the forces,’’ the lady who practically owns the Second World War hit, The White Cliffs of Dover, Dame Vera Lynne and one of the musical stars of the 1980s, composer-producer David Foster.
