TIMOTHY | RENSHAW table hopping Bruce Milligan opened Cafe Veneto last April along with Win- dows compatriot Juan Barros, and the two have been building a solid Yaletown following ever since. The small, elegant restaurant serves food grounded in the vibrancy of northern Italian cuisine, but embellished with the Milligas: craftsmanship that made for such inspired dining at Win- dows during its brief flowering in North Vancouver. When the shutters were finally pulled on Windows in late 1987 with the closure of the Interna- tional Plaza, Milligan was lured to Toronto. But he soon came to his senses and returned to Vancouver with ambitions to trade the massive kitchens and sedate menus of hotels for the more intimate and informal surroundings of a small restaurant.
