Local health department
to discuss child safety

PLAYGROUND SAFETY and
disease control will be under
discussion at a workshop spon-
sored by the North Shore Health
Department.

Sally de la Rue Browne, public
health inspector, will discuss how
to make children’s playgrounds
safe, and what diseases are a con-
cern in a day care or preschool set-
ting,

Bert Engelmann, vector control
officer, will discuss how to control
pests including rodents, fice and
scabies.

A certificate will be provided
upon completion of the workshop.

Nutritionist Jean Thompson will
speak at West Vancouver Recre-
ation Centre on Monday, Feb. 22
from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Nutri-
tion for You and Your Child. Cost
is $5 per person or couple.

Thompson will also speak on
Nutrition and Preschoolers on
Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m.
to noon at St. John’s Church, 1490
Nanton in Vancouver. Cost is $3
and babysitting will be provided.
