Ambleside homeowner wants change

Regarding the North Shore News
report of Dec. 23 on the ca-
propriation of 1734 Argyle Ave.,
West Vancouver.

My remarks to council! on Dec.
21) on the above subject, as
reported in your paper, require
same clarification.

1734 Argyle Ave. was offered
for sale to the West Vancouver
municipality by the former owner
but the municipality made no at-
tempt to purchase. The property
was then put on the open market
and sold, the first open market sale
since $975 when the Ambleside
Waterfront Acquisition Policy was
adopted. The municipality has ex-
propriated from the new owner.

Why didn’t the municipality ne-
gotiate to purchase when the prop-
erty was offered? Because, by
means of its poticy, the
municipality has made itself the
only purchaser of these properties
and did not believe that anyonc
else would buy — thereby forcing
the furmer owner to come back,
cap in hand, and beg to be pur-
chased,

This is the situation in which the
Ambleside waterfront homeowners
are placed by the Municipality of
West Vancouver, The provincial
inspector of municipalities has
carefully reviewed this matter and
has informed West Vancouver
that, ‘‘while it) is) within their
