DO YOU remember the Six- ties? The era of the great Shell 4000 Trans Canada Ral- ly; the showpiece of North American Rallying that drew teams from all the major manufacturers both domestic and import. The Canadian Winter Ral- ly; a thousand miles of slipp- ing and sliding around the backroads of Ontario and Quebec, trying to follow an exacting route and maintain a strict and ever changing average speed. Ah, yes, those were great times in Canadian Rallying. EUROPEAN STYLE The Seventies: North American discovers Rallyng European style. The em- phasis changes to speed and the top cars become thoroughbreds prepared with loving care by factory and Private mechanics. Costs skyrocket as competitors scramble to take to the woods. The result is divided loyalties between the oldtimers who saw the sport as a battle of intellects bet- ra UN i No THE CITIZENS Committee Against No Fault Automobile Insurance has announced the appointment of former Social Credit Cabinet Minister, Bill Vander Zalm and prominent businessman, George Wilkin- son as Co-Chairmen of the Committee. BROAD BASE The Citizens Against No Fault Automobile Insurance is a broadly based Committee made up of members of the business and professional community and various com- munity groups. The Commit- tee includes representatives from the Head. Injury Association, the British Col- umbia Parapalegic Associa- tion, Canadian Association ween the navigators and the Organizers, and the newcomers who saw it as a battle of man and machine against the unseen road. FADED In this battle the newer form won and Road Rallying slowly faded from the side by side and indeed complement each other. In the intense competition of the World Championship the top Co- Drivers all have their roots in the great Road Rallies of Europe. Now the West Coast Autosport Club, the most ex- perienced rally club in BC.is reviving the art of Road Rallies and in particular that vanety where the navigator works from maps. Once again the only branch of Motorsport that requires a crew of two becomes open to anyone with a car and a com- panion willing to sit beside his or her to act as guide and mentor. The only equipment needed is pencils and clip- board. Changes to the car are nil. You can shop in the mor- oO no of Rehab Personnel and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (M.A.D.D.). STATEMENT The following statement was issued by Vander Zaim and Wilkinson: **A commission set up by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia has recom- mended a No Fault scheme, which operates on the basis that moncy saved by under- compensating victims of car accidents can be used to pay persons responsible for the accident.
