CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

There will be a strong contingent of North
Shore skaters taking part in the Canadian Figure
Skating Championships in Montreal, February 3.5

Gary and Neil Paterson,
representing the Hollyburn
Club will take part in the
Senior Men's competition
while Linda and John
Ivanich of the North Shore
Winter Club take part in the
semior pairs.

Linda Ivanich 1s_ also
competing in the Junior
Womens while John is in the
jumior men along with Jack
Holmes also of NSWC.

The brother and sister pair
are also in the junior pairs
along with Gaylene and
Kelly Johnston of NSWC and
Tammy and Dion Beleznay
of the same club.

Laura and Jamie Ivanich of
NSWC are competing in the
novice pairs. A total of 211
skaters in the country
compete for the utles in
novice, junior and senior
events.

The senior events are the
ones to watch. Defending
champions in all four
disciplines will have to be on
their toes to recapture their
titles and qualify for that all

important spot on the World
Team.

Fans may miss the battle
between the Brian’s - Orser
and Pockar - as Pockar has
turned professional. But
Orser will meet an equal
challenge from Vancouver's
Dennis Coi and Toronto's
Gary Beacom and Gordon
Forbes. All three are ex-
perienced national and
international competitors
who have improved con-
siderably this year.

Kay Thomson will also
have to be on her toes to
meet the challenge of Tracey
Wainman, Elizabeth Manley
and Charlene Wong.
Wainman will be looking to
regain the Canadian ttle she
lost last year and Manley
(last year’s silver medalist)
will want to improve this
standing and guarantee
herself a place on the World
Team.
