Survived jump from Lions Gate A 13-year-old girl who survived a 131 ft. jump from Lions Gate Bridge Sunday is still in -the intensive care department of Lions Gate Hospital, where she is reported to be in fair con- dition. Her survival is attributed to the action of a North Van- couver man, 23-year-old Michael McKnight, of 3300 Capilano Road, who swam out and brought her back to shore. McKnight was sitting in a vehicle by the beach in West Vancouver when he saw a splash in the water about.20 feet from the shore. The girl, who is said to have been severely depres- sed, had walked on to the north end of the bridge Bridge without telling her intention. When they reached the North tower, the girl told her fnend she was going to jump, climbed onto the railing and leaped. A Highways patrolman who was driving on the bridge saw her about to jump and immediately called to have the centre lane of the bridge closed to clear a path for emergency vehicles to reach the area. But before any emergency service had a chance to respond, the girl had already jumped. She is one of only a very few people who have sur- vived jumping from the bridge, although there have been several suicides from the same location this year.
