Fabricated by ten students who ranged in experience from beginners to those with four years’ involvement in glasswork, the window was put together during an in- tensive two week training session conducted by Lee Baldwin, a professional glass designer from Eugene, Oregon. Baldwin was using a new approach to teaching stained giass technique. Instead of having students work on individual projects where they often just practise their own mistakes through a lack of individual attention, Baldwin had the whole class working together on one piece. “The procedure we used here,” cxplaines Baldwin. “gave cach student hands-on expenecnce with a of the problems and considerations cncountered in the design. fabrication and installation of a major project.” In the course students had the opportunity to con tnbute at their own speed and level, “The = only requircmecnt we had was that the finished picce have the appearance of professional work.” said Baldwin “If a student required three or four tnes to cut a piece that fil property. then that’s what we did ~ The students who cnroticd im the session were Bevericy McLaughhn, Ray Philhps Lisa Brayham = Ida Olives Brian Boyd, Jane Muidpte v Ed Poloney, Barbara Kail y Lois Phascy and Norma Jeon McCallan.
