In 1975 the Kiwanis Club of North Vancouver in conjunc- tion with it’s non-profit compa- ny Kiwanis Senior Citizen Homes Ltd. had just completed Kiwanis Lynn Manor. Financing of that project nad required the sale of the original Kiwanis Village housing project which generated capital funds well beyond foreseeable needs. A preliminary report by the company, followed by a joint report of the club and the com- pany set the stage for the North Vancouver Kiwanis Foundation early in 1976. By late 1976 the Foundation was incorporated under the Society’s Act, accepted by Revenue Canada as a Registered Charitable Organiz- ation and had _ directors appointed by the company and the club. At this point the com- pany transferred to the Foundation a stock portfolio worth more than $500,000 to officially fund the organization. Once the Foundation was firm- ly established, the bylaws were revised to have the club appoint all directors. After meeting all administra- tive and regulatory costs the North Vancouver Kiwanis Foundation has made grants totalling $677,638.00 from 1977 to the end of 1995. During that period the trust fund has grown and is current- ly worth approximately $750,000.00 A “selective list" of groups and organizations which have received grants is shown in the accompanying list. Represented projects include: * Bringing Home The Pacific Great Easter Station al Pacific Great Eastern Railway Station (1943) Heritage Buliding. Jointly with the city of North Vancouver, B.C. Heritage Trust and B.C. Rail, the North Vancouver Kiwanis Foundation is sponsoring a project to relocate and restore the historic rail- way station close to its original site near Lonsdale Quay. The building will be used by the North Vancouver Museum and other community groups. ~ Guidebook To Crime Prevention And Safety For Seniors. North Vancouver Kiwanis Foundation is funding publication of one thousand copies of a book which provides compre- hensive tips on safety and security for seniors. The booklet is produced by the B.C. Crime Prevention Association. Commemorative Drinking Fountain The North Vancouver Kiwanis Foundation is providing funds for a drinking fountain to be located in Victoria Park, North Vancouver Drinking Fountain Victoria Park ¢ Kiwanis Scout Canada Camp KIWANIS/Scout Canada Camp at Lynn Creek, completed in 1995 with funding from North Vancouver Kiwanis Foundation.
