Open Letter to Parents of Children in North Vancouver Schools Dear Parents, The teachers of North Vancouver, after over one year of negotiating with the School Board, now have only a few remaining unresolved issues, including class size and support for students with special needs. To resolve these final issues, we have asked the North Vancouver School Board to enter into volun- tary binding arbitration. The School Board said ‘no’ FACT . The Labour Relations Board mediator recommended to both parties that the only way to achieve resolution cf these outstanding issues was through binding arbitration. The teachers of North Vancouver said ‘yes’; the School Board said “no” FACT North Vancouver is one of only two school districts in the Lower Mainland which are not either in binding arbitration for contract resolution or have achieved an agreement. The other district is Burnaby and those teachers also are seeking to enter arbitration. FACT 80% of all school districts in British Columbia have concluded negotiations. North Vancouver school district is not funded differently from those, nor are North Vancouver teachers asking for move funding. School Board budgets are set by the provincial Ministry of Education. We are not asking that the. | North Vancouver. school budget be increased. We do believe that Board priorities need to be re-examined.
