THE WEST Vancouver Community
Arts Council has woa a grant from
the Canada Council to bring two
well-known West Coast writers to
West Vancouver to read during
National Book Week, April 20 to
27.

The West Vancouver Memorial
Library will co-sponsor the
readings by Howard White on
April 24 at 2 p.m. at the West
Vancouver Memorial Library, and
by poet P.K. Page on April 27 at 2
p.m. at the Ferry Building.

White is a non-fiction writer
known for his books about the
B.C. coast and its inhabitants. His
most recently published books in-
clude Spilsbury’s Coast and The
Accidental Airline.

White also runs his own suc-
cessful publishing company, Har-
bour Publishing.

Besides the customers filling the
Bucket to savor and digest the
weekly Baron of Beef special, a
roaring trade in Dip take-outs car-
ries on throughout the funch hour.

Demand for the beef has pushed
consumption at the Lunchbucket
from 20 pounds to 80 pounds per
week.

The Bucket was staffed, the day
Table Hopping visited, by a crew
of middle-aged women who look-
ed like they had just come straight
from the honest kitchens of Sun-
day’s church bazaar.

They were uniformly pleasant,
agreeable and hardworking. And
they all seemed to have been on a
first-name basis with most of the
Bucket’s clientele.

The deli's bright red, black and
white interior decor adds another
aspect to its overall appeal.

So, regardless of whether you
pack a briefcase or lunchbucket to
work, if you are in the market for a
hearty Baron of Beef or a hearty
anything, hit the Bucket.

Festival seeking submissions

brief description of their proposed
work (not original work), an up-
to-date resume and a maximum of
five slides, photcographs or
transparencies of previous work to
B.C. Festival of the Arts, 148 East
2nd Street, North Vancouver, V7L
1C3 by Friday, March 1.

B.C. FESTIVAL of the Arts orga-
nizets are looking ior 25-30 origi-
nal or limited edition works of arts
to present as awards

Debra Drayton said the festival,
a province-wide cultural celebra-
tion held from May 22-26 in Nortiy
Vancouver District, is currently

seeking submissions trom artists.
One artist will be chosen by
committee to create the works.
The works should be sensitive to
the festival theme, said Drayton,
which is “the arts are alive in
North Vancouver
