Democracy took a low blow Dear Editor: Thank you for your balanced news coverage of candidates for election to the North Vancouver District Council. It is a pity that, perhaps in- advertently on your part, some doubtless worthy candidates were recommended (and advertised) by a group claiming to be ‘Citizens for Good Government’’. Their style aped a comparable. con- troversial West Vancouver group. But the North Vancouver per- sons, whoever they are, gave no contact name, phone number or address. And so open democracy took yet another low and dirty blow. Brian Sagar North Vancouver Free enterprise vote carved up Dear Editor: Divide and conquer. It works, every time, for the NDP. Carve up the free enterprise vote and the New Democrats get in. The federal election results, recently in B.C., prove this beyond doubt. With little more than a third of the vote the New Democrats elected 60 per cent of the MPs we sent to Ottawa. Nearly two thirds of our people voted otherwise. But they split their vote three ways. Don’t blame Bill Vander Zalm. Blame right-wingers for voting DRAPERIES Reform, not Conservative. Blame middle-of-the-roaders for voting Liberal when they also wanted to keep the NDP out. With different agendas B.C. voters in the centre and on the right gave Mr. Broad- bent the best news he’d heard all night. There is a lesson here. Unless we unite under a single, non-socialist banner we will drown in welfare stateism (sic) in B.C. Social Credit is the answer. Jack Davis, MLA North Vancouver-Seymour BY S.
