30 - Sunday, January 10, 1988 - North Shore News Sports Curling league starts THE LONSDALE Recreation Centre is starting a new curling league for men and women aged 50 years and older. The league will play Mondays at 1:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 11 and extending to March 28. “Curling is an ecasy game to learn and is enjoyed by partici- pants of all ages,”’ said Recreation Centre programmer Tom Walker. “We are also planning a junior league for 11 and 12-year-olds. “The sport doesn’t cost much, and the equipment needs are fairly simple.” Fee for the senior league is $23 for 12 wecks. Brooms can be pro- vided, and practice time is available Sunday and weekday afternoons. A beginners curling school is also scheduled for Jan. [1 at 7:30 p.m. There is no charge for this program, which is led by qualified Curl Canada instructors. Those interested in senior or junior curling or the curling school can call 988-6166 for more details or registration. A four-week First Time to Fitness program provides a friend- ly, non-intimidating introduction to various fitness options. Classes are 30 :ninutes long and are guaranteed not to cause pain or dicomfort. They are followed by a {5-minute information and orien- tation session. The program is limited to 10 people with the focus on individual attention and educa- tion. The $18 program fee includes a $10 certificate towards any fitness program.
