WEST VANCOUVER firefighter Cary Manns returns one of the
thousands of tennis bails he faced in his May 23 marathon to raise
money for the Vancouver burn unit. Manns took on 32 celebrity op-
ponents, including Terry David Mulligan and Jackson Davies, during
the 24-hour tennis extravaganza. He raised close to $4,000 for the
burn unit. The marathon was held at the North Shore Winter Club.

camp closes

FIFTY-ONE PLAYEKS took part
in the Gordon Sturtridge Football
Lergue’s second annual bantam
spring camp held May 8 to 10 at
Delbrook Park.

The camp, featuring Cancdian
Football League pros Bruce
Barnett and Pelter Vandenbos,
closed with the award ceremony
and complimentary barbecue.

Linebacker Kwa Kwee Baker
took the camp’s most valuable
player award.

Defensive noseguard Jason
Dobmeier and runningback Mike

Brooks each received awards for
outstanding performance during
the controlled game scrimmage.

Fullback Paul Zuccato and cen-
tre Daron Sauve each received
awards for showing the most im-
provement in their play.

Camp coordinator Matt Storey
said, “I was happy with the
amount of football learned and
especially pleased that we had no
serious injuries.’’

The bantams begin
season practice July 6.
