The event began on North Vancouver’s Grouse Mountain wiih runners racing down the mountain to the top of Skyline Drive. From there various legs of the race included mountain bike riders, kayakers, canoeists and sailboarders. The finish line was Jericho Beach. The Deb Destroyers team in- NORTH VANCOUVER Hockey Pee Wees win award THE North Van Pee Wee B hockey team beat out 31 other Lower Mainland teams to win the 1986-87 Pee Wee B Achievement Trophy at the recent Pacific Const Amateur Hockey Association an- nual awards banquet held in the Pacific Coliseum. North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association president Bob Piestor said it was the first time in the eight years the award has been presented that a team from his association had won. The award formally recognizes the team that displayed the best sportsmanship and improved the most throughout the season. Head coach Alas Campbell said, “a member of the selection com- mittee explained to me that the award is for the team that best ex- emplified what minor hockey is all about. I’m very proud of all the players. They proved that hard work and fun go hand in hand and they won the trophy with that pos- itive attitude.” S cluded Loree Bennett, Allison Bensett, Sarah Butterwor'h, Laura Dickinson, Lacra Grsuadison, Sharon. Seven of NWVRA girls recently journeyed to Kitchener, Ont. for, the Canadian National Ringette Championships. Beth Calkin, Margie Mayrs, _ Robyn Raymond and Patricia Zum . Hingst played on the junior team, which finished sixth overall. Col- lette Anderson, Marni Heed and Lisa Valleau. made the bronze- winning Belle team. The Juniors placed a respectable sixth, while the Belles came home with the bronze medal.
