10 - Wednesday, July 16, WV Council ROAD ALLOWANCE BLOCKED A PLAN TO close part of a road allowance to allow a three-lot subdivision was given initial approval recent- ly by West Vancouver District council. News Reporter The move will not affect traffic flow on area Streets. In a letter to council, the prop- erty's developer Robert Brough noted that the planned subdivision at 1468 30th St. would not open up nearby Mathers Crescent, a closed-ended street that borders the rear of the property. Brough said that Mathers Cres- cent would be extended only as far as needed to provide access to the one added lot that would border on the crescent as a result of the subdivision. “The administration does not want the crescent opened through to Mathers Avenue,’’ Brough noted. But some area residents told council’s policy and planning committee they were concerned with construction vehicles using Mathers Crescent as an access to the site. Local resident reminded the committee that “there is no turnaround’’ at the end of Mathers Crescent and large trucks must back out of the street to exit. She suggested that 30th Street would provide better and safer ac- cess. But district director of opera- tions Don Watker said the municipality had no power to restrict access if a driveway was already in place. Ald. Mark Sager expressed disappointment at the subdivision and said part of the beauty of the area is the large lots. FHOME FURNISHINGS ¢ .
