of that lovely city. While we stud-
ied the atlas we kept a running list
of everything she had enjoyed on
her last visit. She is taking her job

Since the kids want to visit
Jersey, they intend to make their
way from York to Portsmouth
stopping wherever they get the
urge.

They’ve planned four days in
Jersey and the rest of their trip in
London, just enough stops to give
them a taste of a few lovely areas
of Great Britain but not so much
that they'll), be running like
beheaded fowl.

It's difficult to give kids enough
advice to keep them safe without
either getting them annoyed or
scaring hell out of them. Fortu-
nately, these kids are sensible and
the fact that my daughter has
travelled extensively is another
plus. But, still, any mother wor-
ries. And I probably worry more
than the average person because in
my job I get to hear some hairy
stories.

hope they have the sense to stay
out of back alleys with strangers.
*Drugs. | have no reason to believe
that either of these kids would take
any risks along those lines but it
doesn't hurt to point out the ex-
ample of Stacey Keach - what did
he get? Nine months? They don't
fool around like we do.

*Traffic. The English drive on the
left. They wipe out plenty of dumb

tourists wha didn't look in the
tight direction. A double-decker
bus can do quite a number on a
skinny Canadian kid.

*And, just to pive Mom an occa-
sional good night's sleep, call
home!

Next, what's this all going to
cost? Their round-trip airfare is
roughly $780 (with tax and in-
surance). BritRail passes (youth,
economy) are $120 for two weeks.
Their boat fare including cabin is
(top price) $178 but there may be
some deals available. They should
be able to manage beautifully on
$50 a day for accommodation,
meals, transportation and admis-
sions.

Last year, my daughter and |
lived on fess and that included
quite a few good restaurants and
380 to see Cats!
