Great season for salmon

WELL NOW, here we are
back in North Vancouver
after a very long absence.

Being born forty-one years
ago in North Van and star-
ting a vety enjoyable life on
Lonsdale and the Lynn
Valley areas, I'm happy to
return if only through the
written word every weck.

1 will try to pique your
outdoor interests through
reperts of the angling
pleasures of the area and
also my adopted paradise of
Vancouver Island.

Maybe a few barbs
directed at the managers of
our great saltwater resource,
the Salmon, will be required.
Up to twelve months ago, as
we all know, under the
stewardship of DFO, the
aforementioned resource was
on a fast ship to hell. -

One thought in my mind is
the rape of the beautiful
Capilano salmon by special
interest groups. Or perhaps
the stupidity of a DFO edict
which ciosed the Lower
Fraser River to all angling
when protection of salmon,
specifically Chinook, was
the aim.

Pil keep the sword in the
sheath this weck and tell you
that this season is the best
salmon angling | have seen
in the Gulf of Georgia.
Whether you are a troller;
moocher; drift fisherman; or
yo-yo expert, you have cer-
tainly enjoyed the fruits on
our Salmonid Enhancement
Program, and, of course,
Mother Nature.

I guess fisherman is incor-
rect because ! know a lot of
the gals are very proficient
anglers. 1 just can't get used

as they work not only for
saltwater angling but
freshwater as well. They are
the fish feeding or move-

times of dawn, dusk, and
tide changes.
