In response io 2 letter
written earlier abour the need
for gates on Lyan Canyon
Park.

Dumping has been going
on in the park tor many years.
The request for giites was
made long before there were
any restrictions on garbage
pickup o¢ transfer station
charges. It got worse as the
population increased.

Truck loads of all kinds of

waste including large appli-
ances, old mattresses, ete.
were dumped in the park after
dark. District trucks at tay:
payers’ expense had to wo be
used to take it Gut. Vandalism
was bad and on the iicrease.
The safery of the park was
seriously threatened. Finally
after repeated roctaests the
gates went on.

The front gate is opened
and closed at the times stated
and it is very easy 10 drive in
and out of the park. There is
no need to have a road
through the park to exit at
Ross. Duval runs parallel to
the park and also exits at
Ross. The exit gate has had to
be closed to stop another
form of park abuse. When it
conies to thinking up new
ideas of mindless abuse, it
doesn’'r take certain irrespon:
sible people long.

Then it becomes a case of

monkey see, monkey do as
other mindless, irresponsible
peopic copy. Regular walkers,
and users of the park, the
people who enjoy and appre-
ciate its natural beauty don’t
mind the slight inconvenience
of gates if it keeps the park
safe.

Dumping, has stopped and
so has the serictis kind of van-
dalisin. The gates are a suc
cess, they are protecting the
park, Thank vou, mayer and
council, for fiseening to 2
requests and appreciating the
need.
