Wilderness focus of West Van gathering ' WESTERN CANADA Wilderness Committee hosts .a slide’ presentation on the Randy Stoltmann Wilderness area, April 26 at Irwin Park elementary school in West Vancouver. The namesake of the 260,000 hectare area died while mountaineering in 1994. The former West Vancouver resident was an avid explorer, writer, photographer’ and conservationist. Wilderness committee campuigner Kerry Dawson is scheduled to talk about the bio- logical diversity of ancient Douglas fir and cedar forest still standing in the four remain- ing watersheds in the old-growth wilderness area, : Dawson will talk about the hiking trails available to visitors of the area. WP AREY EEE! a Th ee gel sp She will also address the importance of the old-growth forests as winter habitat for wolves, moose, grizzlies and other species. The Randy Stoltmann Wilderness area is located a 200-kilometre drive north of Vancouver. Friends of Cypyess Provincial Park will also give a presentation to update the public on its old-growth forest campaign. The group opposes the expansion of com- mercial ski facilities at Cypress Provincial Park. The event takes place 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the schoo! auditorium at 2455 Haywood Ave. Tickets are available for purchase at the door.
