In the past, they went to landfills or were made available to the public, where some of these chemically treated poles were used in environmentally unfriendly ways. Ina joint effort to recycle wood poles in a more efficient way and protect the environment, B.C.Hydro, BC TEL and B.C. Wood Recycling have developed a program to turn waste poles into usable lumber. Contact us via e-mail at: environment @behydro.be.ca Now, approximately 60% of every pole is recovered and milled into lumber for fencing, decking and landscaping. So, instead of burdening our landfills, most of this wood goes to community projects or is reused by B.C. Hydro to build bridges, borders or for use in environment enhancement projects, We're the first to admit dat everything isn’t per- fect. But, improved recycling of wood poles is just one of the ways we’ re committed to the environment.
