LYNN VALLEY Was council ever serious about recreation facility? Dear Editor: Your editorial of Wednesday, Sept. 6 was way off the mark. There is enough money from land sales to pay for a Lynn Valley rec- reation facility including a pool, as well as a facility in Seymour. The reason the proposed Lynn Valley recreation facility is now in jeopardy is that North Vancouver district council has been playing politics instead of tackling this project in a business-like manner. I don’t believe council was ever serious about this project in the first place. They resented spending that money in an area they take for granted. They believe it is safe to let Lynn Valley down. As for the new proposed pool facility, had they been serious, council would have proceeded as soon as the rec commission in- dicated the need for a pool facility and as soon as the people in Lynn Valley spoke out in favor of it. They would have listened ta the public and district’s own staff when they demanded that park land not be used for this site when there was no need for it. Had they been serious, they would have made provisions for lap swimming when the public requested it, but they did not do this either. And now they are in a quandary. On one hand, they don’t want to be seen as scuttling the project openly. On the other hand, they don’t want to spend the additional money as a result of the over-runs, which are mostly of their own do- ing. The facility can still be built despite the over-runs. Land prices have risen steadily. But council will have to stop playing politics — Lynn Valley against Seymour, while shafting them both. Also council must stop subsidiz- ing our big corporate citizens. They are quite capable of paying their fair share of taxes the same as homeowners do. If council is prepared to do this instead of playing two-bit politics, not only can we have the Lynn Vailey Rec Centre, despite coun- Donations yes, garbage no Dear Editor: On behalf of the volunteers at the Lions Gate Hospital Thrift Shop I thank everyone kind enough to give us donations. However, we are being plagued with garbage dumped on our doorstep. Recently we had a mattress left at our door. Our garbage disposal bin does not take such items. We were able to contact city hall and they removed it for us, for which we thank them sincerely. We have posted a notice that we want nothing left outside our doors after business hours. We’ve had complaints from our neighbors and we can understand their concern. So please help us in this regard and give us your safeable items when the shop is open for business. A phone call beforehand will give you our hours. | Feature Special GREEN SEEDLESS GRAPES Large AVOCADO BROCCOLI -- PRICES EFFECTIVE, OCTOBER 2-OCTOBER 59° Connie Pigeau, chairman Lions Gate Hospital Thrift Shop Thinking of Selling?
