Seniors to be honored for community contributions

NOMINATIONS FOR this year’s
British Columbia Senior Award
are being accepted until August 31.

The award, sponsored by the
Brock House Society and sup-
ported by the Bank of Montreal, is
given to a Canadian citizen resi-
dent in B.C. who is 65 or older
and, in the judgment of a selection
committee, “‘has a demonstrated
record of voluntary community
service,’’ said Bruce L. Box, presi-

dent of the Brock House Society.

The winner of the award will
receive the Brock House Society
Medal and a $5,000 Bank of Mon-
treal non-taxable grant.

intended to encourage greater
public awareness of the contribu-
tions senior citizens make to socie-
ty, to recognize their lifetime
achievements and to record them
in the history of this province,”’

brochure detailing the rules, may
be obtained from Brock House,
from the manager of any B.C.
branch of Bank of Montreal, or by
writing to: The Brock House

Vancouver, B.C. V6R 1B3.

Nominations must be signed by
at least two people. Supporting let-
ters, signed statements and publici-
ty material should not exceed five
pages in length. Candidates may
not nominate themselves.

Nominations for the 1989 award
may be submitted to Brock House
or any Bank of Montreal branch
manager in B.C., no later than
close of business Aug. 31.

The winner will be announced in
October and the award will be
presented at 2 dinner in the Faculty
Club, University of British Col-
umbia, on Nov. 16.

The Brock House Society,
founded as a non-profit organiza-
tion in 1974, operates Brock
House, a_ heritage builaing
overlooking English Bay, in which
a variety of cultural, educational
and social programs are offered to.
