Hilton is a North Vancouver City Fire Department firefighter. He fias lived on the North Shore for the past 30 years. He is single. Com- munity interests listed include fund raising for charities, the Lions Gate Hospital foundation and children’s ward, the Vancouver Genera! Hospital burn unit and the muscular dystrophy campaign. ¢ Jack Hubbard, 50, Hubbard is a seaman and has lived on the North Shore for 20 years. He is married and lists his community interests as softball and soccer. © Birdie Wasylciw, 49. Wasylciw has lived on the North Shore for the past eight years and is single. Community interests include her work distributing free clothing for people in need through Co-Pro and lending a hand at the food bank. A gold rush of a singular and heart-warming kind swept the na- tion this year with the launch of Air Canada’s Heart of Gold Award. Community newspapers, including the North Shore News, were swamped with nominations. © Joe Tibble, 50. Tibble is an elementary school vice-principal. He has lived on the North Shore for 20 years and is married with two children. His interests focus on children and minor sports. Tibble is president of West Van Minor Hockey and works to pro- vide opportunities for children outside of school hours. * Don Fiolayson, 73. Finlayson has lived on the North Shore for 10 years. He is single and is a retired professional engineer. Community interests listed include amateur radio and visiting hospi- tals. ° Ernest McLoughlin, 82. McLoughlin is married and retired. He has lived on the North Shore for 46 years. He organized the Melody Macs [7 years ago. The Macs have a singing and music show for seniors and shut-ins. Observed case by case, the nominations often speak of generosity and compassion. He is co-chairman of the field urer’s baseball subcommittee for M-orth Vancouver. e Verna Barlow, 64. Barlow has lived on the North Shore for 32 years. She is married and is a homemaker. She describes her community interests as visiting the old and the ill at hospitals as well as church visiting. © Pat Wilson, 61. Wilson has lived on the North Shore for 30 years and is involved in religious educa- tion as a coordinator at Holy Trinity. Wilson, who is married, is active in the Meals On Wheels program, church work, and sings with the Sweet Adelines. succeed in community endeavors. Anyone over age 19 © Helen Yeung, 21. Yeung has liv- ed on the North Shore for 20 years and is single. She is a dietetics stu- dent and will graduate in 1989. Yeung has worked as a volunteer shopper and congregate meals assistant with the long-term care section of the North Shore Health Department. She hopes to work as a community nutritionist or in a care home because she feels much is needed in terms of community educational and social support. © Mae Shugy, 60. Shugg has lived on the North Shore for 30 years. She is married and has a career in sales. Her activity in the communi- ty includes giving of herself to the Guides, PTA, church and sports. ° Matthew J. Davis, 87. Davis is retired and has lived on the North Shore for 51 years. Community in- terests listed include the Masonic Lodge, where he was a past Grand Master, the Orange Lodge, Santa Claus for 18 years with the City of Vancouver, and past president for the North Shore Socreds. was eligible for nomination. Wilson, a teach- er, has lived on the North Shore for 21 years. He is single and lists his community interests as coaching and assisting colleagues in coaching. © Nanci Gaudry, 35-plus. She lives in Gibsons and works in the field cf kinetic education, integrating the left and right brain hemi- spheres. She is married with one child. She lists her community in- terests as children, teenagers and the Gibsons Youth Council. She founded a recreation centre in Gibsons. © Nancy Gale, 49. She has lived on the North Shore for 45 years. Married, Gale works as a service aide in the emergency department at Lions Gate Hospital. Communi- ty interests listed include mental health, grandchildren, family and friends.
