Men appear on theft charges TWO LOWER Mainland men appeared in North Vancouver pro- vincial court Jan. 8 to face five criminal charges laid against them in connection with a suspected theft from a local courier service. Alten Russell Brown of North Vancouver and Gordon Fraser Sutherland of Vancouver, both 23, are charged jointly with two counts of possession of stolen property in connection with Nov. 28 and Dec. 13 police seizures of 2 video recorder and lottery bonus cheques allegedly stolen from Gelco Express. Brown faces two additional possession of stolen property charges in connection with a Nov. 5 seizure of rings and charm bracelets and a Dec. 16 seizure of a microwave oven. Sutherland also faces a theft charge in connection with an alleged Dec. 12 lottery ticket theft from Gelco Express. Appearing before Judge J.K. Shaw, the two were remanded to - Jan. 27 for preliminary hearing on the charges. , ! é Mail service back to normal “NORTH Shore mail service was back to normal Friday after labor . problems that had stopped all mail from leaving the main Van- couver post office Thursday temporarily subsided. Previously, it was WCB policy to cover volunteer firefighters only when actually fire fighting, travel- ling to and from fires or during practices and drills. Lock said the 22 volunteers on Bowen Island currently have addi- tional coverage through the Volun- teer Firefighters Association of B.C Lions Bay and Squamish also have volunteer fire departments.
