34 - Sunday, June 8, 1986 - North Shore News HIROSHIMA LEGACY Atomic artifacts displayed ATOMIC BOMB artifacts from Hiroshima, some never before ex- hibited outside Japan, go on display June at the Robson Square Media Centre until June 14, The Hiroshima Artifacts Exhib- ition, drawn from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum collec- tion, was seen by about 4,000 in April during the Centennial Disarmament Symposium at the Orpheum Theatre. The artifacts are objects sub- jected to the effects of the atomic bomb dropped on the city in 1945. Visitors to the exhibition will see students’ clothing, household ob- jects blistered and melted roof tiles, plants, a monstrous finger nail, and a half melted bronze im- age of Buddha. The display also shows 50 paint- ings by citizens of Hiroshima and 20 panels of photographs of the devasted city, including one 6’x12° photograph showing the epicentre of the explosion. The Hiroshima Artifacts Exhib- ition, organized by the Vancouver Centennial Commission Peace Committee, is a graphic and mov- ing reminder of the effects of nu- clear war. Admission to the exhib- ition is free.
