And, I went there to meet a gentleman. A thirty-two pound friendly feline, recently crowned the fattest cat in London in the Capitol Radio competition. Fat? TIDDLES is mons trous. His rolls begin just back of his ears and end at the base of his tail which is absurdly thin. The bulk stands on four tiny feet, far too dainty to have been pro- grammed for the job of get- ting him from place to place. Clearly, cats can become obese everywhere but paws and tail. Tiddles is a_ friendly fellow. He seems to enjoy Air Canada files for MONTREAL - Air Canada has filed with the Cana- dian Transport Commission to increase domestic passenger fares by five per cent, effective July [4. The performance of the national carrier on Canadian routes this year has con- tinued to be affected by cost pressures combined with a decline in air travel, mainly attributed to prevailing Travel - wise by Barbara McCreadie economic conditions. However, the effect of in- flanon has been largely off- set by a reduction in volumes - in areas such as aircraft size and capacity, and flight fre- quencies - and by a senes of Management action under- taken to reduce costs. As a result, Air Canada anticipates the increase in domestic operating costs will be held to $35 million in Just for tourists Almost everything the traveller always wanted to know about British Columbia is now contained in a single publication — Tounsm British Columbia / The Traveller's Handbook. by B C ‘s tourism ministry The new handbook, with bright) photographs and bursting with useful in- formation, makes Canada's Pacific province come alive for persons who have never been there. I'm sure half the schoolgirls in London have seen him, judg- ing by the scrapbooks of let- ters and clippings. Scratch his ears and he flops on one side so you can have a better go-round under his chin. He goes into raptures when a devoted admirer ex- tends the scratching down his backbone. Under- Standable, though. It must be mighty difficult for him to groom himself - aside from the area involved, Tiddles is NOT athletic. A busy train station would hardly be first choice for a kitten looking for a new home but twelve years ago one tiny kitten did just that. Early one morning he wandered down the stairs wearing a collar and a bell but no identity tag. The at- tendant, June Watson, shared her lunch with him and advertized for his owners. Not even the railway police could find them so he became a pérmanent resi- dent. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Miss Watson but since the washroom is always Staffed there is someone around to look after his care and feeding. There is even a special refrigerator in the storeroom at the rear to keep his food fresh. There, too, is his litter pan while his bed is at the front door and his water dish conveniently under the row of sinks. According to the many ar- ticles publishéd about Tid- dles he's a finicky eater. Tin- ned food won't do - fresh rabbit, kidmey and _ liver, please. It is also claimed that he can run up the steps but I fare increase 1983. The fare increase is calculated to generate ap- proximately $25 million in revenues during the year. The increase will not app- ly to special promotional programs recently announc- ed by the airline for the sum- mer period. All other fare types will be subject to the five per cent increase, subject to gover- ment approval. Air Canada passengers who are already Careers in Travel! While I was there, he managed to walk to his water dish - slowly-and then rested twice on the longer trek to his tray. One of the notices posted about Tiddles mentioned that he is seen by a vet once a month. It isn’t hard to im- agine the strain on his heart - as he tries to lug his enor- mous body around. His fur hasn't the gloss and shine of a healthy cat either. His eyes are bright, though, and he takes a lot of interest in everything that goes on. If you get a chance, go visit.
