A new site should be
found. for the proposed
provincial court house,
because the present
location is right in the
middle of a recreation
complex, the North
Vancouver Recreation
Commission says in a
letter to Premier Bill
Bennett.

In the letter to the

premier, Payne says that as
“the new Court House will
be built in the middle of
what is a large recreation
complex, the Commission
respectfully requests that
cansideration be given to an
alternative site.”

City council refused to
give the commission the
support it asked for in its bid
to move the court house
from 23rd and St. George's
Avenuc.

Alderman Ralph Hall told
Payne he didn’t see what
good the commission's letter
could do now.

“It seems to be pretty well

Alderman Stella Jo Dean

agreed, adding she would
have preferred to see the
court house located on the
present City Hall parking
site.

Buty she said, architects
have been hired and plans
have almost been finalized
for the court house.

Other aldermen were even
harsher in their criticism of
the Recreation Commission.
