about haggis

Dear Editor:

There are many new arrivals to
this country who have never tasted
haggis. Some of these same people
have never seen haggis and know
nothing about it.

With Robbie Burns’ Night here,
this lack of information could lead
to a gastronomic disaster. Fortu-
nately, from a very old book of
Scottish poems, the answer has
been found. I quote:

What is a Haggis?

The haggis is a vicious breed,
With habits like a sloth.

I love reading Doug Collins’
column. It is so full of nonsense
that it is a relief after all the
serious stuff. It tock me some time
to decide whether he is a fool or a
knave, but now | am sure he is the
former.

Take his article on the Jews.
One would have thought he would
have taken the trouble to read the
pertinent documents written by the
Nazis, discussed the experience
with those who had been in con-
centration camps and altogether
acted like a reporter and not like a
bigot who reads only those books
that enhance his bigotry.

Tt builds its nest from Harris
tweed,
And strips of tartan cloth.

It only ventures out at night,
And hunts in packs like dogs.

It gives a green and ghostly light,
And makes a noise like frogs.

The natives catch them by their
tails,

To dodge their beating wings:

Then fix a clothes pin on their
nose,

And eat the blooming things!
