Three sports cars are new for
1999, the redesigned Mazda
Miata, the Porsche 911 and
the — yet-fo-be-seen Honda
$2000.

The Miata has new styling,
but otherwise it is similar in size
and performance to the previous
model which was introduced in
1989. Miata prices range from
($26,025-S30,725).

The new Porsche 911 is
based on the same platform as
the Boxster and shares many of
its parts including its front-end
appearance. Improvements
include more interior room,
more predictable handling, and
more power from its  rear-
mounted flat six-cylinder engine
(which is now water-cooled).
S11s start at $95,200.

The new Honda $2000 is a
front engine/rear-wheel-drive,
two-seater sports car with a 245
horsepower 2.0-litre VTEC
four-cylinder engine.

It’s expected to be priced in
the $40,000 range.

truck-like body-on-frame chassis and
part-time four-wheel-drive, but now
the front hubs lock and unfock auto-
matically, Vitara’s are available in
two bodystyles: two-door convert-
ible and four-door hardiop, but
Grand Vitara’s come only as a four-
door hardtop.

The Grand Virara’s 2.5-litre V6 is
all-new, and at present, is the only
V6 engine offered in the small SUV
class. Grand Vitara’s are priced from
$22,995 to $27,695. Vitara prices
have not yet been released.
