Manhattanites seem willing
to suffer toe torrure in their
high-heeled Guccis and Pradas
but here on the West Coast,
women don’t appear so casily
persuaded.

The stylish shoppers who
buy their Kenneth Coles and
Enzos at Bodnarchuk’s
Edgemont Village boutique
have practicality and comfort
in mind.

Still, dress shoes for day
and evening are rising to new
heights this season. Gone are
chunky platforms and in their
place are streamlined styles
with a higher, sleeker heel.

“Even pant suits look bet-
ter with a nice high heel,” says
Bodnarchuk. “As pants get
wider, the heels have ro get
slimmer. You put on the
clunky shoes and they don’t
quite look right.”

Platform wedgics are fun
for weekends but they won’r
pass muster at work.

Same goes for the thigh-slit
skirt, one of this season’s
hottest trends. Provocative
styles that reveal more than
they conceal still have no place

in the boardroom,

One style that is proving
popular is an ankle-length col-
