A NORTH Vancouver man
was recently fined $500 for
driving without due care and
attention in connection with
an April 4 car crash on St.
Georges Avenue.

Herbert John Bailey, 70, plead-
ed guilty to the charge on Nov. 30
in North Vancouver provincial
court. Judge Bill Rodgers fined the
motorist.

The North Vancouver RCMP
had recommended an impaired dri-
ving charge and a charge of driving
without due care and attention
against Bailey, according to police.

The North Vancouver Crown
office. headed by Crown lawyer
Sandra Watson. went ahead with
the latter charge only. citing

Two pedestrians. including
Lions Gate Hospital (GH) radiol-
ogist Dr. Barry Irish. were injured
after the parked truck they were
standing in front of was rear-ended
by Bailey's car.

Bailey was travelling south on
St. Georges Avenue and about half
a block from the North Vancouver
RCMP detachment) when he
slammed into the parked truck.

was lifted up and on to the truck.

LGH staff pushed wheelchairs
out of the emergency department
doors and across the street to take
the injured people to hospital.

One of the pedestrians suffered
an injured foot: the other received
nine weeks of physiotherapy after
sustaining @ variely of injuries.
