126 trips daily THE SEABUS, B.C. Tran- sit's unique double-ended catamaran passenger ferry service, sailed into history on Wednesday when the service celebrated its 15th birthday. “Fifteen years ago, in June 1977, SeaBus carried its first pas- senger across Burrard Inlet. Since that time SeaBus has carried more than 50 million passengers,’’ said B.C. Transit president Mike O'Conner. He added that SeaBus staff should be congratulated for delivering an unparalleled ‘‘pro- fessional quaiity service.”’ The SeaBus makes 126 one-way trips daily between North Van- couver and Vancouver and more than 45,000 crossings a year. it has made 675,000 trips since it began revenue service, missing only 10 sailings in 15 years. Designed and built in Victoria, the two SeaBus vessels ply the waters of Burrard Inlet. The Bur- rard Otter and Burrard Beaver were launched in 1977 after five .years of planning and construc- _ tion. The SeaBus system is the first of its kind in the world. Light construction, high tevels of manoeuvrability and stability, the ease of loading and quick tur- naround are all factors of the unique SeaBus design. Fares are integrated and buses are scheduled to meet SeaBus sail- ings. NEWS photo THE SEABUS system is the first of its kind in the world.
