through modern dance

MODERN DANCE classes are be-
ing offered at the Capiiano Col-
lege Sportsplex which is located at
2055 Purcell Way in North Van-
couver.

The course instructor, Christine
Elsey, has been performing or
teaching modern dance since 1972.
Organizers say she will bring a
wealth of knowledge and experi-
ence to the dance program.

Elsey has a master’s degree in
sociology and anthropology and
has taught at Langara Community
College and Simon Fraser Univer-
sity. Her dance portfolio includes
performances at Expo °86, Globe
°90 and the Stein Valley Festival.

Elsey’s holistic approach to
instruction will give students an
opportunity to discover the joys

of dance and movement, while at-
tending to their own physical and
psychological needs.

“Creativity in dance emerges
from an overall body awareness
and an integration of mind, body
and spirit,"’ she says.

“The Capilano College Sport-
splex is a perfect venue for such a
program,’ adds Elsey. ‘‘It has a
superb view of the city and easy
accessibility from anywhere on the
North Shore.”’

Classes will run from 8:30 to 10 ,

p.m. on Mondays from March 16
to April 27.
