Tom Walker’s Tourism Van- couver people hosted a pleasant Special Tribute evening at the Hotel Van last Wednesday when they saluted 34 organizations that have more than 25 years’ membership in the tourism organization. The North Shore was well rep- resented by popular businesses like the Park Royal Hotel, Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain Resorts. Yes, Gary Kiefer was there, proudly beam- ing... - Business news, too, is that dere bas been a top level shuftle within the hierarchy at Coast Hotels. Apparently President Rob O'Neill has opted to take a little sabbatical — something about brushing up on his powder skiing. Mike Kitsuragawa of the parent company becomes the new presi- dent of Coast Hotels while Rob's brother, West Van's youthful hotel executive, John O'Neill, received a plum promotion. John now becomes senior vice- president of sales, marketing and development. Coast veteran and North Van resident Franco Angiesia becomes executive vice-president of opera- tions. It's expected that Rob, after his skiing vacation, will return his at- tentions to the fatnily’s other business, that of National Cater- ers, the company that won the zillion dollar Hibernia oil fields contract... eee And congratulations, toa, to West Van's ad man Roger Rowley. Roger has a new career in the offing. For 17 years, he was with Hayhurst Advertising then joined Lynn and Tom Baird’s agency for two years. The news is that Roger has just been appointed as the new direc- tor of marketing for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He begins his new position on Oct. 7. The rest of the news from the Rowley family is that Roger’s wife, Chris Rowley, has just Opened a new dried flowers business called Rustic Rose along with her partner, Cindy Savareauz, whose husband is Frank Savareauz, VP of the Ben- tall Group... Tuesday was a very important evening for the owners and vint- ners of Calona Winery. That was the night that they introduced their new 1987 Rougeon, an out- standing wine, and VQA approv- ed. To go along with this quality product, Calona commissioned a painting called Transitions for their new label. The painting has been created by Rob Dunfield, a well-known artist and quadraplegic who paints with his brush held in his mouth.
