By retaining important hevitage features we can re-experience the past, measure our own progress. and create a more exciting and diverse community. But, that's not all! There are often economic benefits to heritage conservation through toursm, employment and reduced impacts on the environment. In recognition of such benefits, the City of North Vancouver has developed the following programs to promote heritage conservation. Heritage Buildings The City has created a Heritage Inventory of existing buildings located within the boundaries of the City. This catalogue ranks buildings as primary, secondary or supplementary importance according to architectural, historical and contextual criteria. Additional categories include buildings built after 1939, heritage structures and heritage landscape features. This inventory serves as the basis for the planning and implemenung of future heritage pelicies. The Ci Heritage Actions As part of the Heritage Program, the Cityts considering a vanity of incentives and by-law changes. T heritage areas like Lower Lonsdale, Grand Boulevard, Ouawa Gardens and the 100/200 Block East 10th Street. includes possible zoning amendments in Awards and Awareness If you're interested in the heritage of your community or home, the City offers a vanety of interesting programs: a half hour video entitled, “Our Heritage Remembered”, free how-to workshops, summer heritage walks, and an annual awards program that recognizes conservation achievement and excellence.
