Dear Editor:

In respect to both Noel Wright’s
comments and the editorial in your
Oct. 23 issue, I take exception to
your assessment of ‘‘the Collins
affair.”

In politics, perception is reality,
and that is what we had to deal
with. As leader, Mr. Manning’s
constituents are the members of
the party as a whole, many of
whom expressed deep :oncern
about having the Reform Party
branded in the way that Mr. Col-
lins has been, however wrongly.

Despite the fact that I agree
completely with your reaction to
Preston Manning’s idiotic stance
regarding your candidacy, | have
decided to continue to work on
behalf of Ron Gamble, Reform
Party candidate in North Van
riding, for two basic reasons.

The first is that, under the ap-
propriate circumstances, the
membership of any party has the
option of demanding a leadership
review and the second is that the
alternatives to the Reform Party
are either hopeless or sickening or
both.

I hope you continue to lend your
massive support to the Reform
Party and I, in turn, volunteer to
dig your spuds.

the interests of the whole party and
our future.

If there is now a public percep-
tion that the Reform Party un-
equivocally rejecis racism and ex-
tremism in all its forms and re-
quires its members and candidates
to do likewise, that is the reality of
which all party members can be
