IF SEWING with satin or silk is a
concern, Woodward's has the
course for you.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, a course
will be taught by Hazel Boyd
Hooey at the Woodward's store in
the Coquitlam mall, beginning at
6:30 p.m.

The course is not being offered
locally, but interested sewers can
pre-register at Woodward’s in the
Park Royal Shopping Centre by
calling 922-6111, extension 3501.

The cost is $20.

The course, called Silks n’
Satins, features a special section on
lingerie as well as a fashion up-
dated version of the couture action
knits.

The seminar is meant to teach
people to achieve high fashion
looks without the high price.

Tips will be offered in pattern
selection, styling and updated sew-
ing techniques.

novice and professional sewers.

Hooey has been active for over
12 years as an independent sales
representative for several suppliers
of fabric, lace and notions.

As former Canadian director for
‘Knit and stretch sewing’ she was
responsible for the recruitment and
training of instructors across
Canada.

diamonds _

IN KEEPING with the ’80s return
to sin«plicity, elegance and quality,
six of Canada’s master jewellers
have produced a collection of
classically-designed diamond jew-
elry that celebrates exceptional
diamonds.

The collection, called A Vision
of Quality, is comprised of 20
one-of-a-kind designs, valued at
almost $1 million.

Each is meant to be a reflection
of its creator's own ‘‘vision of
quality.’’

A Vision of Quality, first
unveiled at a gala celebration in
Toronto, will be in Vancouver at
Brinkhaus Jewellers Oct. 2 to 9,
before being shown in Montreal
Oct. 27.

The craftsmen who participated
in the show include Gordon
Rosenthal from Rosenthal Jewelry,
Jack Bunting from Secrett Jewel
Salon, Pius Kaufmann and
Thomas Primavesi from Primavesi
and Kaufmann, Edgar Charbon-
neau from Gabriel Lucas.
Joailliers-Createurs and Norbert
Brinkhaus from Brinkhaus
Jewellers.

Each retailer was asked to pro-
duce four new designs, incor-
porating quality diamonds in con-
temporary but sophisticated set-
tings.
