Election night results for the two North Vancouver ridings showed the _ poll's forecasts to have been accurate within approx- imately one percentage point or less for six candi- dates out of the seven — and to have erred by only four percentage points for the seventh. The poll had its most stmking success in North Van-Capilano. It forecast 62 per cent of the vote for incumbent Socred MLA Angus Ree. Election night results gave him 62.2 per cent. For the NDP’s Olga Kempo the poll predicted 32 per cent and for Liberal Jean Driscoll-Bell four per cent. They won 32.3 per cent and 5.4 per cent respectively. In North Van-Seymour the News poll erred by just over four per cenf in the case of incumbent Socred MLA Jack Davis, for whom it forecast 5S per cent of the vote. He actually scored 59.1 percent. But for his three op- ponents the News prediction was well on target. The poll gave New Democrat David Schreck 37 per cent. He emerged with 36.3 per cent. Liberal Stuart McNish won 2.9 per cent of the vote (News forecast was four per cent). Edward White of the Western Canada Concept Party won 1.7 per cent (News forecast was three per cent). West Vancouver-Howe Sound mding proved more difficult to call in part because some 23 per cent of the electorate live between Horseshoe Bay and Pem- berton, a relatively strong NDP area not covered by the News surveys. For polling stations within the Cedardale - Horseshoe Bay area covered by the News poll the election night results were as follows with May 1 News forecats in brackets): John Reynolds, Social Credit, 67 per cent (79 per cent): Claus Spiekermann. NDP. 16 per cent (nine per cent); Mort Graham, Liberal, eight per cent (six per cent); Neil Thompson, Conservative, seven per cent (four per cent). In view of the remarkable accuracy of the News poll in the two North Van ridings. the West Van results may possibly reflect a special extra effort by the NDP and the minor parties during the final four days of the campaign. Confronted by intruder A WOMAN returning to her West Vancouver home shortly after midnight Friday, May 6. was faced by an intruder when she went downstairs The man was standing just inside the sliding glass door and fled outside and through the back yard upon seeing the homeowner.
