This year marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the North Shore Secondary
Schools’ Athletic Association which organizes inter-school athletics in 16 sports for

boys and 14 for girls in the 13-North Shore high schools.

The North Shore's goals of high participation and excellence have developed since
1958 to the point where the Association has been recognized for many years as the

A. One of the great sprinters of all time, this 1959 North Vancouver graduate held world records in the
100 yards and 100 metres and won gold medals in both the Pan-American and Commonweaith
Games and a bronze in the Olympics

B. The daughter of a Vancouver golf professional and a North Vancouver grad of 1962, she won the
B.C and Canadian junior goif titles several times and captured the Canadian ladies’ championship in
both 1962 and 1963.

C. A star in basketball and baseball, he scored a North Shore record 1,769 points in his senior
basketball career and, following graduation from North Vancouver in 1961, played tour years of
professional baseball in the New York Yankees’ organization

D. The holder of the oldest record in the North Shore high school track meet, a leap of 17°5" (5 31m) in
the juvenile girls’ long jump set in 1959 while competing for Sutherland, she ran for Canada in
numerous international meets after graduating from North Vancouver in 1962.
